Education in Madagascar

History and Goals

History and Creation

Education in Madagascar is a French non-profit association under the 1901 law. It was established in October 2016 with the aim of facilitating the education and nutrition of disadvantaged Malagasy children to give them a real chance for personal development and hope for successful integration into their country's society.

The Education in Madagascar team is divided between the office in France and the field in Madagascar. Raymond Arbona, president and founder, spends 10 months a year in Madagascar. This allows him, along with the team and local partners, to oversee and implement all the actions we undertake. Additionally, he welcomes sponsors who wish to experience an unforgettable visit to the field, as well as interns and volunteers.

Recognition by the Malagasy State
Solidarity between France and Madagascar

In January 2018, Education in Madagascar received from the Minister of National Education, Mr. Paul Andrianiaina Rabary, a certificate of recognition from the Malagasy State for its "valuable contribution to improving education in Madagascar." Since then, this recognition has been renewed every year by successive governments.

In 2018, 261,000 meals were served, and 2,323 children found their way to school. For the year 2019, 3,576 students received our support, and 306,000 meals were provided. In 2020, 308,500 meals were served. For the years 2021 and 2022, 80 tons of rice were distributed each time.

Board Members in France
Paul
Paul Bouvet
Treasurer

Residing near Annecy, Paul's retirement is occupied by his family, sports, music, and gardening. At the creation of Education in Madagascar, he was approached by Raymond, with whom he had already collaborated in a previous association. Paul has been assisting with financial management and certain secretarial tasks, particularly in the collection and sending of funds to Madagascar. During a stay in Antsirabe in 2019, he was able to meet with the association members based in Madagascar and witness firsthand the work done on the ground.

Dominique
DOMINIQUE STRACK
Secretary

A Franco-Swiss father of four, Dominique joined the association as a donor member in April 2020, gradually increasing his involvement in our operation until joining the board. Influenced by his experience in Ethiopia and his various trips, Dominique enjoys volunteering in the fields of education and ecology. He brings us solid training, a taste for the field, and extensive project management experience.

Estelle
ESTELLE HOMASSEL
Assistant Treasurer

A mother of two grown children and a passionate runner, Estelle has been working in the computer field for over 20 years. Due to her accounting background, her father, Paul, convinced her to join the association to manage the treasury. Since the creation of the Madagascar association, she has been working on tracking donations and expenses to ensure transparent fund management. Her professional commitments currently prevent her from traveling to Madagascar, but it is part of her future plans.

A young retiree from the retail industry, residing near Aix-les-Bains, he is the father of 2 daughters. He has been a member since the association's inception and was approached by Raymond (whom he has known in another association that cared for underprivileged children in Madagascar and has been associated with for over 25 years) to join the team. He is learning about the association's operations from Paul, and he will bring his experience as a business leader. He had the opportunity to spend 15 days in Madagascar with Raymond and see firsthand all the work being done there.
